Why You Should Always Make a Local Recording When Live Streaming

Streamio can automatically record a live stream – can you just always rely on this feature, or should you also make sure to make a local recording?

When you broadcast live via Streamio, there is a handy feature that automatically saves your broadcast on the platform. Even so, we always recommend that you make a local recording alongside your live stream. The reason is simple: the local recording is your best insurance against technical problems and loss of quality.

Here are some strong reasons why you should always record locally:

  • Best possible quality. The local recording is made directly from the source before compression and transfer, which often produces a sharper, more stable image.
  • Security if the internet is a problem. We can only store what actually reaches Streamio. If the Internet connection becomes unstable, congested, or interrupted, parts of the broadcast may be lost.
  • Fewer disruptions. A local recording isn’t affected by network issues or transmission failures — you get the entire broadcast, no matter how the network behaves.
  • Extra protection. In every technical chain, there are many links: computers, cameras, networks, and servers. If any of these fail, the result may be affected, but with a local recording, you always have a backup.
  • No guarantees without local copy. Streamio cannot guarantee that the broadcast will always be saved correctly. In the event of technical problems, there is a risk that the recording will not be completed.

Of course, if the recording has no value – for example, in a test or a completely insignificant broadcast – you can skip the local copy. In all other cases, it’s best practice to always record locally.
