Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD)—a reminder that the internet only lives up to its promise when everyone can participate. At Streamio, we’re marking the day by sharing a pilot we’re especially proud of: Streamio auto-generated subtitles for live streams, now running on Region Uppsala’s public broadcasts.

Why subtitles matter
Whether it’s a council meeting, a health update, or a graduation ceremony, live video moves fast. For viewers who are deaf or hard of hearing—or simply following along in a noisy place—captions turn a half-understood stream into a fully accessible experience. They also help people who are watching in a second language or are on mute at work.
Feature highlights
- Real-time Swedish captions appear when someone speaks, so no one has to wait for an edited replay.
- GDPR compliant: all processing happens on Rackfish-owned servers here in Sweden: no third-party clouds, no data export.
- Built for public service: Region Uppsala can share urgent information broadly while meeting strict privacy and accessibility guidelines.
What’s next
With Region Uppsala already enjoying real-time subtitles on live streams, we’re preparing a broader rollout for all Streamio users later this year. If this would make a difference for your audience, contact us here, and our team will get back to you.
